What does hospital cleaning involve?

Healthcare hygiene requires specific procedures from a Cleaning company. Patient vulnerability and area-specific risks determine the protocol. This guide outlines the principles of professional hospital cleaning under the facility’s instructions.

• The service must follow the facility’s plan, with trained staff, authorised products and appropriate equipment. Workwear, hand hygiene and protective equipment form part of the procedure.

• Methods are selected to avoid dispersing contaminants and according to each area’s risk. Do not improvise with brooms, vacuums or other equipment outside the approved protocol.

• Floor cleaning may include a two-bucket systemor other systems approved by the facility. Separating solutions and replacing equipment helps control contamination, but does not guarantee disinfection on its own.

• Include all surfaces specified in the plan, generally working from cleaner to dirtier areas and from high to low unless a specific protocol states otherwise. Change materials between areas and avoid recontamination.

• Disinfectant and procedure selection belongs to facility management and infection prevention and control teams.

• Risk classification and cleaning frequency are defined in the facility’s plan. Operating theatres, isolation areas, patient rooms and administrative spaces may need different protocols; a generic classification does not replace local assessment.

• Separate equipment by area and follow technical instructions, dosing, contact times and waste procedures. Do not mix incompatible products. Record duties and incidents using the facility’s system.
