How to organise housework and save time
Published on 01/05/2018
Small tasks can build up. A realistic shared routine helps keep the home tidy without doing everything at once.
Tidying the home
Put items away after use, store clothing and keep shared areas accessible. Share tasks among household members according to their abilities.
Removing rubbish
Empty bins according to their contents and collection arrangements, before organic waste develops odours. Follow recycling requirements.
Cleaning the bathroom basin
Remove soap, toothpaste and other residues using a compatible method. Keep cloths clean and dry surfaces where needed.
Vacuuming floors
Adjust frequency to use, pets and visible dirt. Use the correct floor attachment and avoid unnecessarily raising dust.
Dusting
Schedule dusting according to build-up and household needs. Work from top to bottom with a suitable cloth.
Doing laundry
Plan washing alongside drying and storage. Follow care labels and avoid leaving wet laundry in the machine.
Periodic tasks
Clean the bathroom according to use and disinfect where needed with a suitable product following its label. A weekly schedule is not sufficient for every situation.
In the kitchen, remove residues after use and schedule cupboard, appliance and floor cleaning. Keep equipment separate from bathroom equipment.
Deeper cleaning
Professional carpet cleaning is scheduled according to fibre, condition and use. For routine care, see the advice in our earlier article and adapt it to the manufacturer’s instructions.
