How to clean shower trays correctly

Shower trays are made from porcelain, resin, stone and other materials, each with specific care requirements. Identify the material and check manufacturer instructions before choosing a product, avoiding incompatible or abrasive cleaners. Remember that bleach and ammonia can damage some finishes. Here is what to consider.

Porcelain shower trays

Glazed porcelain can usually be cleaned with water, a compatible mild cleaner and a non-abrasive sponge. Rinse and dry. Abrasives may scratch the glaze, so only use them if specifically permitted. If you notice dark marks, check which treatment is suitable before scrubbing with a harsh pad.

Mineral resin shower trays

Resin trays may have a surface coating and slip-resistant texture that need protecting. Use a soft cloth and the recommended cleaner. Do not assume vinegar, bleach or ammonia are compatible, and avoid harsh pads. Slip resistance does not eliminate the risk of falling.

Natural stone shower trays

Natural stone needs a cleaner compatible with the stone type and protective treatment. Acids can damage calcareous stone, while hard brushes may scratch it. Clean gently, rinse and allow it to dry. Ask a specialist about renewing sealants or treating persistent marks.

Solid surface shower trays

Solid surface materials combine mineral fillers and resins in different formulations and finishes. Follow the brand’s maintenance guide and use its recommended product with a soft cloth. Different models may require different treatments.

Solicast shower trays

Trays sold under this material name may have smooth or textured finishes. Follow the instructions for the specific model. A compatible neutral cleaner, thorough rinsing and drying support routine care; avoid harsh products that may affect colour or coatings.
