Graffiti removal methods

• Controlled abrasive blasting: is a specialist process that can erode the substrate if the abrasive and settings are unsuitable. It is not appropriate for every material. It requires preliminary testing, protection of the surroundings, dust control and trained personnel.
• Pressure washing: pressure and temperature must suit the material and condition of the substrate. Excessive pressure can damage joints or force water into the structure. Any pretreatment product must be used according to its technical instructions, with wastewater properly managed.
• Compatible paint removers: paint removers are selected for both the graffiti and substrate. No universal remover is safe on every surface. Test first, follow the specified application time and provide the necessary protection and ventilation.

Subsequent protection

After cleaning, a compatible anti-graffiti treatment may be considered. Sacrificial systems need renewing after graffiti removal, while permanent systems have their own maintenance requirements. Durability and appearance depend on the product, substrate and exposure.
