Bathroom, kitchen, terrace and balcony tiles may be ceramic, porous, terracotta or other materials. Good results depend on identifying the substrate and choosing a method compatible with its finish and grout.<\/p>\n

Here is how to adapt tile cleaning to the material and location, always starting with a discreet test.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Cleaning kitchen tiles<\/h2>\n

Grease and splashes build up in kitchens. Remove them regularly using a non-abrasive sponge and compatible cleaner. Rinse where instructed and dry with a clean cloth.<\/p>\n

Vinegar is not a universal disinfectant and may damage calcareous stone or some grout. Only use it if the manufacturer confirms compatibility. For routine cleaning, choose a product intended for the material.<\/p>\n

For persistent grease, choose a compatible degreaser and follow dosing and precaution instructions. Do not improvise mixtures with ammonia or hot water, or combine cleaning products.<\/p>\n

Cleaning bathroom tiles<\/h2>\n

Ventilate the bathroom and regularly remove soap residues and moisture. Use a compatible cleaner, often a neutral one, with a soft cloth. Recurring mould may indicate a ventilation or damp problem that needs addressing.<\/p>\n

Where mould treatment or disinfection is needed, use an authorised compatible product according to its label. A drop of ammonia cannot be assumed to disinfect. Avoid abrasive pads and dry accessible surfaces.<\/p>\n

Cleaning terrace and balcony tiles<\/h2>\n

Outdoor areas collect dust, leaves and debris. Remove loose dirt first and check the material and grout condition. Terracotta and other porous floors need specific care.<\/p>\n

Use a cleaner compatible with the flooring and its treatment. Do not apply bleach or wax as a general rule: they may alter colour, sealants or slip resistance. Protect drainage and avoid discharging water onto public areas or neighbouring property.<\/p>\n
